The most convenient way to reach Tartu is by plane to Tallinn, then bus or train to Tartu (about 2,5 hour). Buses to Tartu leave the airport approximately every half hour.

The best way to get bus tickets is to use the site www.tpilet.ee. From there you can choose the route and suitable time to buy/book a bus ticket. The IUFRO 3.08 Tartu 2023 conference venue is in the campus of Estonian University of Life Sciences located in Tartu city. Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia. Tartu has a population of 91,407 (as of 2021). It is 186 kilometres (116 miles) southeast of Tallinn and 245 kilometres (152 miles) northeast of Riga, Latvia. Tartu lies on the Emajõgi river, which connects the two largest lakes in Estonia, Lake Võrtsjärv and Lake Peipsi.

Tartu is often considered the “intellectual capital city” of the country, especially as it is home to the nation’s oldest and most renowned university, the University of Tartu (founded in 1632).

Tartu will be the European Capital of Culture in 2024.
